Note from The JarOFeu Practice

Behind the Name: JarOFeu

Our name is a tribute to the French expression Jarre au Feu (Jar in the Fire) and the historic technique of Le Petit-Feu. In ceramic tradition, Petit-Feu represents the mastery of low-temperature firing—a stage where precision and patience converge.

At JarOFeu, we have evolved this heritage into a modern Practice, using bespoke thermal algorithms to ensure our wild clay reaches its absolute point of maturity. It is where the ancient language of the flame meets the technical rigour of today.

The Provenance

Wild Clay & Augmented Craftmanship

Gleaned earth is the breath of our project, far more than just a material. We reveal the uniqueness of local soils through refined, sustainable ceramic bodies. A raw substance—a true archive of the land—born from a meticulous marriage of minerals. Its texture invites touch: an immersion into the very essence of the Canadian Shield. Each batch is processed by hand—crushed, sieved, and aged—preserving the distinct mineral character of the earth.

Manufacturing and texture

Each batch is hand-shaped: crushed, sieved, then aged to preserve the mineral temperament of the earth. We grind fired clay to breathe it back into the raw body—a virtuous cycle that gives the work its internal tension, unique grain and tactile depth.

Raku instinct

Here, technology fades to make room for the unpredictable. Through the ancestral Raku technique, we capture the imprint of raw fire, bestowing upon each piece crackles and highlights born from thermal shock.
